Paulownia has big flopsy leaves sometimes as big as tennis rackets (sorry,
my wife is the horticultural scientist, not me) and it has very pale pinky
flowers a bit like jackaranda.  The trunk is shortish and fairly thick.

Don't know about blackwood.  I guess quite slow growing. Tasmanian Oak aka
Bluegum is the big thing now.  I guess 20-30 years for commercial results.
The timber is long grained and pale hardwood, but not super hard, and it has
a tendency to splinter.
