US markets closed higher on Tuesday, helped by sharp gains in shares of Apple, while investors also awaited consumer prices data and a policy announcement from the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.31%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.27% and 0.88% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.98%), the Dax 30 (-0.68%), CAC 40 (-1.33%) and the STOXX (-1.02%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.25%), HSI (-1.04%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.76%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.402%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.834%. Oil was up to $78.18 per barrel, up 0.57%. The gold price was at US$2334.10 per ounce, up 0.31%.
