The US markets closed sharply lower on Tuesday to close below 5,000 points for the first time in almost a year after it reversed a strong morning rally, while investor hopes faded for any imminent US delays or concessions on tariffs ahead of a midnight deadline.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average down 0.84%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 1.57% and down 2.15% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+2.71%), the Dax 30 (+2.48%), CAC 40 (+2.50%) and the STOXX (+2.52%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+6.03%), HSI (+1.51%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.58%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.291%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.73%. Oil was up to $55.76 per barrel, down 4.24%. The gold price was at US$2995.30 per ounce, up 0.74%.
