US markets closed higher on Thursday the seventh straight daily advance for the benchmark, as all three major US indexes gained after weekly jobless claims data offered fresh hope for interest-rate cuts. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.85%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.51% and 0.27% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.33%), the Dax 30 (+1.02%), CAC 40 (+0.69%) and the STOXX (+0.76%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.34%), HSI (+1.22%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.83%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.457%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.818%. Oil was up to $79.59 per barrel, up 0.76%. The gold price was at US$2350.70 per ounce, up 1.22%.
