March 25th Morning Report

US markets closed little changed on Friday but the index registered its biggest weekly percentage gain of 2024 after the Federal Reserve this week stuck with projections for three interest rate cuts by year's end. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.77%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.14% and up 0.16% respectively.

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.61%), the Dax 30 (+0.15%), CAC 40 (-0.34%) and the STOXX (-0.42%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.18%), HSI (-2.16%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.55%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.202%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.596%. Oil was up to $80.82 per barrel, down 1.95%. The gold price was at US$2166.50 per ounce, up 0.30%.
