US markets ended higher on Thursday, with the Nasdaq and S&P 500 each ending more than 2% higher after jobless claims fell more than expected in the latest week, soothing worries the labor market was weakening too quickly.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.60%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.77% and 1.05% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.27%), the Dax 30 (+0.37%), CAC 40 (-0.26%) and the STOXX (+0.01%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.74%), HSI (+0.08%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.0024%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.989%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.034%. Oil was up to $76.07 per barrel, up 1.12%. The gold price was at US$246.80 per ounce, up 1.41%.
