US markets closed lower on Friday as signs that inflation may have peaked in July increased investor confidence that a bull market could be underway and spurred the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq to post their fourth straight week of gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.08%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.07% and 0.58% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.47%), the Dax 30 (+0.74%), CAC 40 (+0.14%) and the STOXX (+0.53%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+2.62%), HSI (+0.46%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.15%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.842%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.25%. Oil was up to $91.88 per barrel, down 0.23%. The gold price was at US$1818.90 per ounce, up 0.19%.
