A: The cost of buying and selling shares (brokerage) varies from broker to broker. Most brokers in NZ charge a percentage of the total value of the order, which can be anywhere from 0.35% to 2%. The best thing to do is shop around and see who can offer you the best rate for the amounts you will be transacting. Air New Zealand historically paid dividends around March and October but in light of the huge losses in 2001 and its recapitalisation by the Crown, dividends appear unlikely for some time.
