US markets closed higher for a fourth session in a row on Thursday as technology shares extended their recent rally.The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment benefits increased last week and another report showed producer prices unexpectedly fell in May helping to keep alive hoes of a September rate cut by the Federal Reserve. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.17%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.23% and 0.34% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.63%), the Dax 30 (-1.96%), CAC 40 (-1.99%) and the STOXX (-1.97%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.40%), HSI (+0.97%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.28%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.248%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.703%. Oil was up to $77.93 per barrel, down 0.73%. The gold price was at US$2319.70 per ounce, down 1.49%.
