March 12th Morning Report

US markets closed lower on Monday with investors preparing for this week's consumer and producer price data, which they hope could give them a better idea on whether the Federal Reserve can begin cutting interest rates in the coming months. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.13%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.13% and down 0.38% respectively.

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.12%), the Dax 30 (-0.38%), CAC 40 (-0.10%) and the STOXX (-0.62%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-2.19%), HSI (+1.43%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.55%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.077%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.478%. Oil was up to $78.13 per barrel, up 0.15%. The gold price was at US$2189.10 per ounce, up 0.16%.
