US markets ended lower on Friday as a Labor Department report showed producer prices increased more than expected in January, which soured investors still clinging to the hope the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates sooner rather than later. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.37%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.48% and down 0.82% respectively.
Other key markets ended lower. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.50%), the Dax 30 (+0.41%), CAC 40 (+0.32%) and the STOXX (+0.47%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.86%), HSI (+2.48%) and the Shanghai Composite (+1.28%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.281%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.644%. Oil was up to $72.22 per barrel, up 0.04%. The gold price was at US$2025.50 per ounce, up 0.07%.
