Allan,

         A rose by any other name !  Consider the US near unilateral ( non UN sanctioned ) invasion of Iraq . Forget the  pros and cons argument , has ongoing implications

for that country and the rest of the world far  into the future . These consequences will be the equivalent of any Nagasaki or Hiroshima type weapon of the past .The morality behind the decision-making is equally questionable . Iraq far less morally justified  The China scenario proposed was, I agree, somewhat stark  , given that it had no speculated context .. However with the  range of puppeteers pulling the strings of what is known as President Bush I would  not over discount  most scenarios .
