Lazy Haggis -- April Fools day occurs on April 1, not May 3rd.

then nuke China to ensure the ongoing strength of the Western Empire. I don't 
expect they'll nuke China this year, but probably within a few years."

To summarise: This is some of the most fantastic science fiction I've read in 
years.
