Woody,
I have a relative
in England ( I hope he doesn`t get to read this ) who, though a nuclear
physicist,( no, none of his brains rubbed off on me ) can write up to 10
pages in a letter on the subject of chronometers . I dread
getting those letters that in perfectly crafted and in his
grammatically framed style tell me , yet again about his particular love
.I have not a scientific bone in my body yet continue to get these letters
that bore the living daylights out of me . If I was more honest I would write
and say get off your pedestal as a boring old pedant . I don`t because somehow I
sense his passion coming through those ,dull to me, technical words that seem to
mean so much to him . His is an almost childlike love of words that somehow
makes me a little more tolerant rather than "cut an angels wings
".
Were he unkind he would probably say to
me "Never dumb down , David ".So I forebear . Or am I too being pedantic
even now Woody.. I love passion in people.
Regards
David Stevenson
