Extracts from press reports 4th and 5th April Canadian Press: Friday's cause for optimism in Ontario all but evaporated Saturday with eight new probable and six suspect SARS cases. Hong Kong (Reuters): Hong Kong reported 39 new infections and three deaths from a deadly respiratory virus on Saturday. There were 10 health workers were among the 39 new SARS cases. Beijing (Reuters):A top doctor in the battered Chinese region said its health care system was in crisis. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued an unprecedented warning against travel to Hong Kong and Guangdong. Malaysia reported its first likely death from SARS. France confirmed its first two cases of SARS infection, two doctors who flew back together from Hanoi. An air hostess who travelled on the same flight is in hospital as a suspected case. Toronto: Another Canadian victim died of SARS on Saturday and a second death is under investigation, obscuring already dim hopes of a nearing end to Canada's struggle with the mysterious illness. New Zealand is expected (shortly) to follow this alarming trend, and warnings will be issued against mixing in areas where significant quantities of Asian tourists gather. General public fear/concern will action such activity automatically, such is the psychology of people.
