Phaedrus/Phyllis,

I have heard good things from Datek and probably can recommend them as well.
I have an account with them but did not fund it and went with another online
broker and I am quite happy with them. I didn't like Datek's inactivity fee
they started but looking at their website now I can't find any reference to
that. It also seems that they have cancelled their minimum account balance.
The only downside is that you only get all the lovely extras free if you
trade with them quite often e.g. Streaming Livequotes only free if you trade
20x a month. However, you can pay a small monthly fee to have access to
these things at Datek.

I am different to Phaedrus and only trade approx. 2-20 times per year so for
me the most important thing was/is execution at the desired price, no delays
in crediting dividends, splitting shares etc. My needs are met with
www.mydiscountbroker.com but changing brokers is easy in the US and if my
trades become more frequently, I would probably transfer my account to
www.datek.com

The US markets are very kind to me and portfolio is up +44.2%YTD
(+107.3%p.a.).

 Normally, you have to fill in a W8-BEN form when you open the account.
Etrade sound particularly unhelpful. I would advise you to transfer your
account to Datek anyway. I have been trading with them for a long time, and
have nothing but praise for them. In spite of having the best site that I
have found on the net, they continue to add extra functionality to it. Free
dynamic charts, free research, free stock screener, free Level 2 quotes for
larger accounts, all for a flat rate of $9.99 a trade, long or short, market
or limit.

 I wouldn't post anything on ShareChat if I was unhappy about it being
disseminated by anyone. Disseminate away!
