If you remember, Qantas made an offer to buy the SIA/Brierly stakes in Air
NZ and sell Ansett as a whole to SIA.  This proposal would have left 3
airlines operating today, except the proposal was shot down by the NZ Govt.

How can you blame the Australian government when it was the NZ govt who
rejected the only viable option?
