I am guessing now, but I suspect whatever deal Singapore Airlines was 
offered, Air NZ would have been offered exactly the same deal.  That 
is usually what a pre-emptive rights deal means. 

Whether extra conditions were added after the Australian workers 
kicked up a stink, I could not tell you.
