Personally I find them very useful provided you know what you want from them and treat their advice accordingly. I have relationships with several as well as on-line trading capabilities in Aus & US. My brokers give me trading capability on any bourse in the world,t+3 settlement and currency conversion. I value their research if not their recommendations.Information & knowledge are what you're buying.I'll quite happily use their research for on-line trades offshore.Never trust their recommendations. I find they can offer benefits beyond on-line brokers: -Market Depth (seeing as the moribund NZSE won't wake up) -Flexibilty eg In Eddisons recent buy up of CEN I noticed many posters here didn't know how to access the offer. Also through my broker I was able to distribute my holding over multiple entities at the cap of 5000 each and sell them all.(Yup I know today's price). -They'll advise me when a major fund is operating in respect of particular shares. -I usually appreciate a 2nd opinion on my trades. -My brokers have been told to bring bread to my table. Why should I do all the work as well as take the risks?Hence they call me to pitch specific trading opportunities.(I don't follow them all slavishly..but I like the ideas being offerred up). +++ get taken to rugby and sporting events!! And for all this I pay them some commission. It's worth it.Anything you get for free is usually worth exactly what you paid for it. DF Mainland made some bad calls.Don't we all? I do not trade with DF Mainland.I am not a member of the broking fraternity.
