Hi Ritchie I think it is very noble of you to disclose your experiences and I hope you won't mind if I just highlight a few pointers for those just starting out in the sharemarket adventure. At the risk of seeming to be a ' smart alec ' but really going by my own experience of some 35 years in the sharemarket, I just reiterate what I believe to be cardinal rules Don't put all your eggs in one basket, however attractive the basket might seem. Spread your risk. Don't put all your cash into the sharemarket - keep a reserve for rainy days. Don't borrow money to invest If you speculate be prepared to lose your money, so only use money you can afford to lose. Investing in the market can be a fascinating experience but due care and diligence is needed. There is no magic formulae. Note how the "knowledgeable" write books etc. on the subject. They wouldn't need to write the books if they had the magic to make their fortunes by investing ! So - Buy with care after collecting all the information you can. I wish I had had the access to the info. that is available via the 'net in my younger days. Now you can collect the data yourself without having to rely on a third party. Don't be too impatient, the prices always go up and down - that's what the "traders" work on. But trading is not for the faint-hearted, if you are not careful the broker will be the only one making a profit ! Keep a watch on your portfolio. If some news looks bad for your Company be prepared to sell - even at a loss. You won't win them all. Best of luck At 06:43 30-06-00 -0700, you wrote: >But here is a lesson for anyone who feels like learning from someone >else's "school of hard knocks class time". > > >Ritchie > >________________________________________________________________________ >Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com > > >---------------------------------------------------------------------------- >http://www.sharechat.co.nz/ New Zealand's home for market investors >To remove yourself from this list, please use the form at >http://www.sharechat.co.nz/forum.shtml. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.sharechat.co.nz/ New Zealand's home for market investors To remove yourself from this list, please use the form at http://www.sharechat.co.nz/forum.shtml.
