Nick,

Nice contribution to the forum. A touch of the human side of who we all are and what we are all about is a welcome diversion. Must be the Easter thing working in a mysterious way.

I've just returned from Blighty for a vist and to see friends and family. Went up north to Nottingham, Docaster, Sheffield and Birmingham. Dead grim it was too. Cornwall was nice though, but what does one do there???? So although NZ, the 'promised land' is stretching a bit, it does take a lot of beating in many ways. A bit rich coming from someone who lives and works in Japan but frequent holidays and trips to the southern hemisphere put all things in good perspective.

Talking of money, financial goals and what it's all for reminded me of a small passage from Kenneth Williams' autobiography (he of the Carry On movies and other fame). He wrote after having a particularly convivial time in the south west,.... "I don't think I had any idea then how fruitful and satisfying the days were. it comes back to what Robert Bolt described as 'the negation of the moment'. What he meant was that men worried so much about the future and knew so much about the past they had lost the ability to enjoy the present."

Feel a twinge of guilt?? I certainly did. I have a colleague just recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, prognosis awful, so it'll likely be curtains for him before the year's out. Worked his b....m off for the last 15 years too earning $200 -250k US a year. Makes you think a bit.

If you're enjoying the making of lucre and worship the fun and the challenge rather than exclusively the result then IMHO that's a recipe for a happy existence, both spiritually and financially.

My apologies that I have added nothing to the collective knowledge of sharechat forum contributors in terms of sharemarkets and investment. However I thought Nick's contribution deserved some response.

Cheers
Richard
