[sharechat] fiber explosion
This story in the Wall Street Journal caught my eye...didn't realize
they had this huge facility in Australia. Anyone know any related fiber
opportunities in OZ or NZ? - Jeff

Corning Spending on FiberOptics to Increase $750 Million
Corning Inc.,the world's biggest producer of optical fiber, will spend
$750 million to expand its fiber-making capacity at plants in the U.S.
and Australia. The Corning, N.Y., company said it needs the capacity
to keep pace with demand and to develop new fiber products. The expansion
is expected to take several years at three existing Corning fiber-making
locations: Concord and Wilmington,N.C., and Noble Park, Australia. The
result will be an overall capacity increase of more than 50%. Optical
fiber is produced in towers as tall as five stories. Corning has developed
manufacturing methods that allow it to expand capacity either by adding
towers or by accelerating production rates in existing ones. Corning
noted that world-wide demand for optical fiber last year was more than
37 million miles.
