Ports of Auckland (NZSE: POA) is picking a new employment agreement with waterfront workers will be finalised soon, averting strike action due to start Monday.

The company says Waterfront Workers' Union has lifted its notice of strike action and that good progress has been made in talked between the company and the union before an independent mediator.

"The talks would continue tomorrow and it was expected that a new employment agreement would be finalised," says POA chief executive, Geoff Vazey

Mr Vazey says he is very pleased that the strike had been avoided and has apologised to port users and shipping line customers for the uncertainty caused by the notice.
