U.S. stock markets continued in record territory on Monday, following the passing of the $1.2 trillion bipartisan hard infrastructure bill, which sailed through Congress. The Dow Industrial Average was at 36,424.16, up 0.26%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.12% to 4,703.01 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.18% at 15,999.56. However, trading was choppy.
Other key overseas markets were also choppy, with Germany’s DAX 30 falling 0.05%, Britain’s FTSE 100 ticking up 0.04% and France’s CAC 40 up 0.36%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed 0.2% up, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declined 0.35% and 0.43%, respectively.
West Texas Intermediate crude oil jumped 49 cents to $81.76 a barrel and gold edged up $8.90 to $1,825.70 an ounce. The US 10-year note was at 1.50%.
