US markets closed higher on Tuesday as more companies joined big banks in reporting earnings that beat forecasts, offering respite to investors worried about higher inflation and a tightening Fed denting the corporate bottomline. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 2.43%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.76% and 3.11% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.01%), the Dax 30 (+2.69%), CAC 40 (+1.79%) and the STOXX (+2.15%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.65%), HSI (-0.89%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.04%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.028%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.242%. Oil was down to $103.85 per barrel, up 1.22%. The gold price was at US$1709.60 per ounce, down 0.04%.
