US markets closed higher on Wednesday after Federal Reserve raised the overnight interest rates by 0.5% for the first time in 22 years and as Chairman Powell signalled the economy can make a 'soft landing'. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 2.81%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 2.99% and 3.19% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.90%), the Dax 30 (-0.49%), CAC 40 (-1.24%) and the STOXX (-0.96%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.11%), HSI (-1.10%) and the Shanghai Composite (+2.41%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.946%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.654%. Oil was up to $110.0 per barrel, up 4.74%. The gold price was at US$1881.47 per ounce, up 0.68%.
