The Commerce Commission has cleared Nuplex subsidiary, United Environmental, to acquire assets from the privately-owned Auckland-based company, Solvent Services.
The assets relate to the disposal and recycling of solvents and the supply of recycled solvents.
Commissioner, Paula Rebstock, says although the acquisition would result in United Environmental becoming the largest participant in the solvent recycling industry, the Commission was satisfied that other competitors in the industry would provide a constraint on the merged entity.
United's services include the identification, handling, collection, treatment, disposal and recycling of waste liquids and other materials.
