Pateke-3 well back in production

Problems at the Pateke-3H well have been solved over Labour weekend, and Tui oil field operator AWE Ltd. reports that “the well is currently flowing at over 4,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) with some ‘flush’ production being achieved from the well”.

AWE expects the well will settle at the longer term production forecast of approximately 3,000 bopd.

“The Tui fields are now back and flowing from all four wells,” AWE said.

Initial efforts to restart Pateke-3 were delayed due to technical issues following the workover undertaken by the Kan Tan IV offshore oil rig, which has now left the area.

The recommissioning issues are understood to have related to equipment that had been idle in the harsh offshore Taranaki marine environment for some months during the workover.

Final costs of the workover have not been calculated and an estimate of about US$46 million could be even higher because of foul weather during the operation.

Participants in the Tui fields and PMP 38158 are AWE (Operator) 42.5%; Mitsui E&P Australia, 35.0%; New Zealand Oil & Gas, 12.5%; and Pan-Pacific, 10.0%.
