US markets closed higher on Thursday mainly lifted by financial institutions and healthcare companies, as investors digested hawkish remarks from policymakers that cemented bets of a large interest rate hike later this month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1.40%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.83% and 2.14% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.33%), the Dax 30 (-0.09%), CAC 40 (+0.33%) and the STOXX (+0.29%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+2.31%), HSI (-1.00%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.33%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.323%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.512%. Oil was up to $82.83 per barrel, up 1.09%. The gold price was at US$1719.50 per ounce, down 0.48%.
