The company announced today it was losing its long-standing manager in Continental Europe, Hans Pauwels, who is to pursue a new career opportunity.
Richmond's chief executive, John Loughlin, is to step down in October to concentrate on his Hawke's Bay winery and other business interests, after steering the company from a provincial meat processor in 1997 to become a multinational food company.
He said Askerne Winery, which he owned with his wife Kathryn, had evolved from a hobby to a business which would treble production over the next three years, and the resignation had nothing to do with the takeover bid by PPCS.
Justice Young has reserved his decision in the High Court at Christchurch related to South Island meat co-operative PPCS' takeover attempt. PPCS has tried to overturn an interim injunction that stops it from trading in Richmond shares until the High Court clarifies PPCS' status as a Richmond shareholder, at a hearing scheduled for August 6.
In the latest executive change, Richmond chief marketing manager Chris Newton, said Mr Pauwels had been a key executive in Richmond's operations on the Continent for many years, and had guided the growth of the business in the major European markets.
He had been strongly committed to Richmond since the mid 1980s when he set up meat deals for Richmond from his home office.
"During Hans' stewardship we have seen prodigious growth in our business from the office in Brussels to the Benelux countries and other major European markets," Mr Newton said in a statement.
