US markets closed mixed on Tuesday, pressured by worries about US lawmakers opposed to a deal to raise the $31.4 trillion debt ceiling, but supported by another surge in Nvdia shares that briefly lifted the chipmaker into the rare club of companies valued at $1 trillion. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.15%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.00% and 0.32% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-1.38%), the Dax 30 (-0.27%), CAC 40 (-1.29%) and the STOXX (-0.66%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.30%), HSI (+0.24%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.086%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.694%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.46%. Oil was up to $69.63 per barrel, down 4.18%. The gold price was at US$1977.90 per ounce, up 0.75%.
