Not realising the journalist in question was listening in via a conference call to a post-profit media briefing, Ms Gattung joked: "You'd have to ask (the journalist). Last time I checked my (security) pass still worked."
Telecom has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons, with troubles over profit downgrades, rural connection charges, and Government intervention on interconnection and Kiwishare obligations -- fuelling predictions Ms Gattung's position is precarious.
Ms Gattung said she paid no heed to such rumours, and simply got on with her job.
Later in the briefing, during question time, the apologetic journalist came on line with his tail between his legs.
"I'm pleased to hear your pass still works Theresa..."
