Holden NZ recalls 629 Cruzes for modification

Holden New Zealand is recalling 629 Cruze vehicles in New Zealand after a potential fire hazard was identified with the cars in other markets.

The lower air deflector, which is also known as the belly pan, can catch oil that might drip from the engine if an oil change is not done properly, the company said. If oil makes contact with hot engine parts a fire can occur.

There have been no reported cases of this happening in New Zealand but the company is taking the action to assure customers that their vehicles are safe.

The recall applies to all 2012 and 2013 Cruze models fitted with a turbo 1.4 litre petrol engine.

Holden is contacting customers to arrange a free-of-charge modification of the lower air deflector, which takes about 40 minutes.

The move comes after nearly half a million Cruze vehicles were recalled in the United States and Canada.
