Murray J BAILEY
Motor technology

No new information is available on entrepreneur Murray Bailey and he is removed from the list.

BOWATER FAMILY
Inheritance

Stuart Bowater died of cancer in 1998 and his widow, Susan, shortly after. Their two children are not involved in the car business and the family entry has been removed from the list.

FRASER FAMILY
Cashed up

No new information has been obtained about the Fraser family which sold its electrical supplies business to a French company in 1998. It has been removed from the list.

HIRSCHFELD FAMILY
Cashed up, investment

Patriarch Michael Hirschfeld, president of the Labour Party, died in 1999 aged 54. A family entry was included in last year's list but in the absence of new information about the family the entry has been removed this year.

Jihong LU, 37
Property development, investment

The would-be developer of the original (and subsequently aborted) Britomart scheme in Auckland, Jihong Lu, was bankrupted in November and he is removed from the list.

John Harding McDOWELL, 62
Cashed up

No new information on retired Auckland sharebroker John McDowell is available and he is removed from the list.

OWENS FAMILY
Transport

Sir Robert Owens died in 1999 aged 78 and last year an Owens family entry was included in the list. It is difficult, however, to track the wealth through his descendants and the family entry has been removed from the list.

Johannes Maria PEPERS, 53
Property development

The bulk of Pepers' assets are thought to be held overseas. There is little new information on him and he has been removed from the list.

TURNER FAMILY
Beds, furniture

The family, synonymous with Sleepyhead beds, has been removed from the list for lack of new information.

Dame Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, 69
MaorI queen

The Maori queen, although never on the main Rich List, has the past two years been listed in our Maori Wealth section with a reputed net worth of up to $9 million. We accept this figure is too high - an error on our part - and she has been removed from this year's issue. There is no suggestion her wealth has been affected by Tainui's drop in wealth.
