New Zealand Oil & Gas has appointed Andrew Knight, a non-executive director since January 2008, to replace David Salisbury as chief executive from Dec. 1.
The company announced Knight’s appointment to the NZX this morning.
A management consultant and former senior executive at energy network owner Vector and at Natural Gas Corporation, Knight is also a director of Powerco, another network business and of several private investment companies.
He has also worked previously with The Australian Gas Light Company, Fletcher Challenge Energy and Coopers & Lybrand, and an accounting graduate of the University of Waikato.
“The NZOG Board completed a comprehensive search process and received strong interest from international and domestic candidates,” said chairman Tony Radford of the internal choice.
Salisbury has led the company for the last five years, a period of highs such as developing the Kupe, Tui and Maari oil and gas producing fields, and lows such as the company’s disastrous exposure to the Pike River mine disaster, where it was a 29 percent shareholder.
The shares were unchanged at 71 cents in trading today, and have declined 18 percent this year.
