The Air New Zealand -British High Commission business journalism scholarship has been awarded to the BusinessDesk's Pattrick Smellie.

The scholarship, now in its second year, will allow Pattrick to spend ten days researching and writing stories at the Financial Times newspaper offices in London.

The British High Commissioner, Mrs Vicki Treadell says "the winning entry was edgy and the stories went to the heart of what makes Modern Britain Great. Pattrick is interested in issues that are up to the minute in their relevance to both Britain and BusinessDesk's New Zealand readers."

Air New Zealand's General Manager Marketing and Communications Mike Tod says the airline is currently working with Pattrick to get him to the United Kingdom next month for his ten day stint at the newspaper

Pattrick Smellie is a co-founder of BusinessDesk an independent business news wire agency. He has spent 21 years working in journalism in New Zealand and for publications across the Tasman. He also was a press secretary for Labour's Finance Minister Roger Douglas from 1985 to 1988 and has worked in corporate communications with Fonterra and Contact Energy.
