IT Capital's (NZSE: ITC) Virtual Spectator is hoping a new appointment will boost the product's profile as it pushes for increased worldwide sales.

The company has appointed an experienced sports media operator, Alexander Brown, as president and chief operating officer, to be based at its new global headquarters in New York.

Mr Brown led ESPN and ESPN STAR Sports' efforts in Asia and will manage the worldwide day-to-day business operations of Virtual Spectator as well as developing strategic initiatives for the company.

"Virtual Spectator has created a leading technology that has a rapidly growing following within the broadcast community, but also possesses enormous potential for the internet," says Mr Brown.

"I am excited about the opportunity to expand Virtual Spectator's presence in the sports category and also look forward to exploring other mediums where Virtual Spectator's technology can enrich the entertainment experience."

Chairman and CEO, Lindsay Fergusson, says Mr Brown is a proven leader in the sports media industry and was recently named one of the ten "power brokers" in Asian sports by Sport Business.

Virtual Spectator, which is 19% owned by IT Capital, uses 3D animation to graphically enhance television sports coverage and create interactive live and real time internet coverage. It earns revenue by charging TV networks to use the technology and from subscriptions from internet viewers.

The company is best known for its online America's Cup yachting coverage but is also now applying its technology to golf, motor sports, soccer, rugby, cricket and music.

Despite the move to global headquarters in New York the company says product research, development and production will continue to be based in New Zealand.
