UNL says in future it will outsource all its repair and maintenance work and some capital work.
CEO Dan Warnock says the decision follows with the company's change in direction from an electricity network company to a horizontally integrated network company with gas and telecommunications networks too.
"UnitedNetworks future lies in the intellectual capacity of our business, managing knowledge in asset strategy and network design, rather than the business of actually building and maintaining the network."
UNL recently announced it would be entering the telecommunications market, piggybacking off its gas distribution system to deliver such services as high speed business internet capability.
The company will be calling for expressions of interest over the next few weeks for its contracting business and expects a sale to be finalised by the middle of next year.
