US markets closed little changed on Monday, helped by Amazon.com shares and the energy sector, as Treasury yields increased and investors looked to economic data and Federal Reserve policymakers' remarks later in the week for clarity on the path for interest rates. Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.78%), the Dax 30 (-0.98%), CAC 40 (-0.85%) and the STOXX (-0.95%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (+0.85%), HSI (-1.82%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.54%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.54%, while the 2 - year note was at 5.127%. Oil was down to $89.94 per barrel, down 0.10%. The gold price was at US$1934.80 per ounce, down 0.56%.
