The grant, from the Foundation for Research Science and Technology, will fund a four year study into plant signalling processes.
The study could lead to new agricultural practices using hormones to control plant growth and flowering, Genesis said. It will look at ways of developing plants' natural hormone modulators, rather than genetic modification or agrichemicals.
About 13 staff will be involved in the programme.
Shares in Genesis closed yesterday at $2.35 against a year high of $3.43 and a low of $2.15.
