In the Northland region, filled jobs grew 3.5% in the year to June 2006, and 22.9% over the five-year period. In the same region, average mean quarterly earnings grew 6.1% in the year to June 2006, and 27.5% over the five-year period.
Otago and Waikato regions had the next largest increase in average mean quarterly earnings in the five years to June 2006 (up 24.5% and 24.4%, respectively).
This compares with an increase of 21.9% in average mean quarterly earnings for all regions combined over the five-year period.
During this time, Wellington and Auckland continued to have the highest average mean quarterly earnings ($11,700 and $11,630, respectively, for the year to June 2006).
After the Northland region, the next largest increase in filled jobs within a region for the five years to June 2006 was in Otago and Waikato (up 21.2% and 21.0%, respectively). This compares with an increase of 18.0% in filled jobs for all regions combined over the five-year period.
The Auckland region had the largest numeric increases in filled jobs (up 95,440 jobs), followed by the Canterbury and Waikato regions (up 35,260 jobs and 26,230 jobs, respectively).
In the year to June 2006, the average quarterly worker turnover rate was 17.3%, which has not changed significantly from the 2001 rate of 17.6%.
These results come from statistics released today from Linked Employer-Employee Data (LEED). LEED uses information from existing taxation and Statistics NZ sources to provide a range of information on the dynamics of the New Zealand labour market.
