US markets closed mixed on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve kept US interest rates unchanged but signaled in new economic projections that borrowing costs will likely rise by another half of a percentage point by the end of this year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.68%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.08% and 0.39% respectively.
Other key markets ended higher. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.10%), the Dax 30 (+0.83%), CAC 40 (+0.52%) and the STOXX (+0.65%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+1.47%), HSI (-0.58%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.14%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.79%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.694%. Oil was up to $68.66 per barrel, down 1.09%. The gold price was at US$1954.10 per ounce, down 0.23%.
