US markets closed lower on Wednesday after the Federal Reserve released minutes from its last meeting, in which policymakers indicated that the surging inflation could lead to another half-point interest rate raise at future meetings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed down 0.34%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.97% and 2.22% respectively.

Most other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.34%), the Dax 30 (-1.89%), CAC 40 (-2.21%) and the STOXX (-2.38%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed higher. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225 (-1.58%), HSI (-1.87%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.022%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 2.601%, while the 2 - year note was at 2.473%. Oil was up to $101.8 per barrel, down 4.51%. The gold price was at US$1925.54 per ounce, up 0.26%.
