July 12th Morning Report

US markets closed higher on Tuesday, helped by optimism ahead of key inflation reports and as JPMorgan and other financial shares gained before earnings later this week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.93%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.67% and 0.55% respectively. 

Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+0.12%), the Dax 30 (+0.75%), CAC 40 (+1.07%) and the STOXX (+0.71%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.04%), HSI (+0.97%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.55%).

The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.978%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.887%. Oil was up to $74.75 per barrel, up 2.41%. The gold price was at US$1937.00 per ounce, up 0.31%.
