US markets closed up on Thursday regaining some of their momentum thanks to a rebound by technology stocks, while volatility dropped to record lows ahead of an eventful economic and policy calendar next week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.50%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.62% and 1.02% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.32%), the Dax 30 (+0.18%), CAC 40 (+0.27%) and the STOXX (+0.13%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.85%), HSI (+0.25%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.49%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.718%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.517%. Oil was up to $70.91 per barrel, down 2.23%. The gold price was at US$1980.60 per ounce, up 1.13%.
