US markets closed lower on Wednesday during as Republican gains in midterm elections appeared more modest than some expected, with investors also focusing on upcoming inflation data that will provide clues about the severity of future interest rate hikes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.75%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 0.25% and down 0.06% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.14%), the Dax 30 (-0.16%), CAC 40 (-0.17%) and the STOXX (-0.30%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(-0.56%), HSI (-1.20%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.53%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.151%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.626%. Oil was up to $85.82 per barrel, down 3.48%. The gold price was at US$1706.90 per ounce, down 0.53%.
