US markets closed little changed on Tuesday, the first day of seasonally slow August, ahead of US jobs data and major companie' earnings reports later this week US stocks ended July on a strong footing, as investors welcomed better-than-expected earnings. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.20%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were down 0.27% and up 0.43% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (-0.43%), the Dax 30 (-1.26%), CAC 40 (-1.22%) and the STOXX (-1.32%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed lower. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+0.92%), HSI (-0.34%) and the Shanghai Composite (-0.0028%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 4.037%, while the 2 - year note was at 4.906%. Oil was up to $82.12 per barrel, up 0.39%. The gold price was at US$1981.50 per ounce, up 1.38%.
