US markets closed lower on Monday, rallying to a sharply higher close as investors awaited crucial inflation data that could provide clues about the duration and severity of the Federal Reserve's tightening policy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.71%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite were up 1.06% and 1.27% respectively.
Other key markets ended mixed. European stocks closed as follows: the FTSE100 (+1.66%), the Dax 30 (+2.40%), CAC 40 (+1.95%) and the STOXX (+2.14%). In Asia, the Hang Seng and Shanghai indices closed mixed. The key Asian indices ended yesterday as follows: Nikkei 225(+1.16%), HSI (+2.69%) and the Shanghai Composite (+0.82%).
The yield on the US 10 - year note was at 3.358%, while the 2 - year note was at 3.576%. Oil was up to $88.04 per barrel, up 1.44%. The gold price was at US$1735.40 per ounce, up 0.39%.
