The airline says the heavy maintenance and reconfiguration work on the Qantas Boeing 747-400 aircraft will be undertaken at its engineering jet base in Auckland.
The contract calls for reconfiguration and in-flight entertainment system installation on nine aircraft, with an option for similar work on a further three aircraft. ANZES (Air New Zealand Engineering Services) will also be required to complete heavy maintenance "C" checks on three aircraft.
Air New Zealand says the value of the contract will range between $13.5 million and $16 million, depending on the exercise of the options.
Work will start this month and proceed until March next year.
MD, Ralph Norris, says the company is delighted that ANZES have won the significant contract in the face of stiff international competition.
"Despite the general downturn in the aviation industry since September 11, ANZES has utilised its reputation for quality work, competitive cost and on-time performance to continue building contract business."
Mr Norris says ANZES now has a strong order book out into next year.
