AAPT wins new telco partnership

Telecom investment, AAPT, has been chosen as the commercial and strategic partner for the first Australian regional community telco.

The Bendigo Community Telco Group will use AAPT as its carrier of choice to provide members with basic voice and data services.

AAPT says will use existing regional infrastructure, as well as planned expansion of fibre, microwave and high speed fixed wireless technology, to deliver the services.

The company's CEO, Larry Williams, says his company committed to delivering telecommunications services to as many Australians as possible, in both urban and regional areas.

"To enable us to deliver on this commitment we have invested in and continue to roll out network infrastructure around the country."

Meanwhile AAPT competitor, Cable & Wireless, says it's introducing a first for the Australian mobile phone industry by allowing customers to recharge their pre-paid mobile balances over the phone by credit card.

Customers will give credit card details via a 1-800 service, and be able to nominate topping up their accounts by $30, $50 or $100.

The company also offers its customers the ability to recharge balances at automatic teller machines.
